Growing up on Boca Raton real estate certainly had its advantages in the early Nineties. For instance, there was one kid named David who simply loved everything about his childhood. Since moving down to sunny South Florida from freezing Minneapolis, David was thrilled to spend every weekend at the beach on 18th Street. David tried his best to surf, but could never seem to grasp the sport. No worries, David was happy to ride the waves on his boogie board.

By the time David reached high school, the city had built a brand new public school located on Lyons Road between Yamato Road and Glades Road. Olympic Heights had everything a kid could want, from elevators to TVs in every classroom. There was even a closed-circuit news broadcast that went out every morning. David was fortunate enough to become a news anchor. Unfortunately, he didn’t hold the position long, as he made too many personal jokes on air. But his friends certainly appreciated David’s short time on television.

David also was thrilled to be part of Olympic Heights varsity football team. Playing wide receiver, as well as defensive back, he helped lead the O.H. Lions to two undefeated seasons. Unfortunately, the boys never made it past the first week of District finals, as they were beaten by the future state champions from Martin County High School. Regardless, David had plenty of fun on the field. He also made friendships that have lasted him his entire life.

Then wrestling season came along. Of course, David was never exactly sure what he was doing on the wrestling mat. That is why the other kids would poke fun at David, calling him a “fish.” Regardless, he managed to win some matches here and there, and all his teammates became extremely close. David still remembers some vital moves if he ever needs to get himself out of a sticky situation. To this day, David may not be the biggest guy in a room, but he may be the toughest one to get down and keep down.

But the extracurricular activities did not stop there. David was also part of the Drama Club. It was a blast, simply because he was the only boy in the whole association. Every time they met, David got to flirt with three dozen young ladies. Needless to say, David became the star thespian at Olympic Heights, even if he couldn’t carry a tune.

As a member of student council, David enjoyed planning school events, such as the homecoming parade and dance, as well as the senior prom. He was one of the voters who got to voice his opinion on everything, from where to hold the affairs to what music to play and which meals to serve. David was also known to throw some crazy parties at his folks’ Boca Raton luxury home.

David loved Olympic Heights so much that he recently applied to teach at the facility. If things go his way, he’ll be able to grab the right home for sale in Boca Raton and give back to the institution that gave him so much.
