Cape Coral Luxury Homes Unwanted Visitors

Summer time is when friends and family that live far away may have the time and desire to visit their connections in Cape Coral luxury homes. There are many reasons why it is the perfect time to welcome those types of visitors, but unwanted visitors are likely to show up as well.

Florida is a favorite haven for mosquitoes. The warm, wet weather is the ideal atmosphere for mosquitos who can breed all year long. It is this breeding that leads a mosquito to bite.  Mosquitoes do not need blood to survive but the females bite for reproductive purposes. Once the flying biter has taken in a meal, it searches for water to lay eggs. It will lay its eggs in standing water that can be as small as a bottle cap full of liquid. Once the eggs are laid, it takes about two weeks for an adult mosquito to emerge.

The Annoying Bite

After a mosquito bites and takes all the blood it needs, it leaves a person with an itchy bump. The bump is caused by an allergic reaction to the insect’s saliva. Besides leaving you and your out-of-town visitors staying in Cape Coral luxury homes with a nasty bite, mosquitos also can carry serious diseases, like Zika Virus, Dengue Fever, Chikungunya, and malaria.

Unfortunately, mosquitoes can live indoors and will bite at any time, day or night. If you know that you will be in the vicinity of these pesky flying pests, find out who you can prevent yourself from falling victim to those itchy bites.

Fort Lauderdale luxury homes stop mosquitoesHow to Fight the Bite

Local mosquito control agencies offer up a few suggestions for those in Cape Coral luxury homes that would like to avoid giving up their skin for a bite from biting bugs.

Prevent the Number of Mosquitos by:

  • Surveying the areas around your Cape Coral luxury homes that have standing water. Containers, planters, children’s toys, dog bowls, gutters, and any other object that is holding standing water which is the perfect breeding ground for mosquitos.
  • Trim back vegetation since mosquitoes actually feast on plant nectar when they are not in breeding mode. Bushes, shrubs and tall grasses are where mosquitos often lurk.
  • Plant mosquito repellant greenery like citronella, lavender, catnip, marigolds, peppermint, and basil.

Keep Mosquitoes Outside by:

  • Keeping doors and windows shut.
  • Placing screens on all windows and sliding doors.
  • Repair holes or rips in screens.
  • Use air conditioning instead of opening up your windows and doors.

Keep Covered by:

  • Wearing long-sleeved shirts and long pants.
  • Be sure children, including babies and toddlers, have their heads, arms, and legs covered.
  • Use mosquito netting around cribs, strollers and baby carriers.

Keep Bugs at Bay by:

  • Using EPA-approved insect repellents
  • Use one that has the active ingredient DEET at least 25% in its product formula.
  • Always follow the package label of any insecticides you use.
  • Never use insect repellents on babies that are younger than 2 months old.
  • Never use insect repellents on a child’s hands, mouth, cut skin, or skin that is irritated.
  • Always spray insect repellent into the hands of an adult, who can then apply the insect repellent onto a child’s face.
  • Never spray insect repellent directly onto a child’s face or your own face.
  • Spray clothes and gear with insect repellent for extra protection.
