Whether it’s homeowners planning on selling their Cape Coral luxury homes or just wanting to do a home improvement project over the summer, one item that is causing a buzz throughout Cape Coral real estate circles is manufactured stone veneer. This relatively new addition to the home improvement marketplace is quickly becoming a standard in the Cape Coral luxury homes market since it has so many benefits.

What is Stone Veneer?

Stone veneer is manufactured out of concrete that is poured into molds resembling various types of natural and quarried stone. Once it is set and removed from the mold, each of the stones is painted to give it that unique look of real stone.

This traditional stone veneer can be used nearly anywhere real stone would be placed. Outside it can set on the side of homes, posts, mailboxes, fencing, and anywhere else you might want to lay the stone. The only areas that most landscape artists do not recommend using veneer stone are in lining water applications such as fountains and pools. The chemicals used to keep the water clean will cause the stone veneer to deteriorate quickly, as will the constant moisture, which will only lead to more repair work.

What is Flexible Stone Veneer?

This type of veneer is thin, bendable, and quite different than the traditional stonework look that a stone veneer displays. Flexible stone veneer most often is used along curved surfaces both inside and outside homes.

It is made from real stone, most often natural marble chips and an acrylic aqueous dispersion. It is quite thin, only about 1 to 5 millimeters thick. The way it is made is by applying a layer of fiberglass and polyester resin composite backing to a stone slab. Once it cures, the backing is pulled away from the rock taking with it a thin layer of the stone.

Many homeowners like it because it presents as slate, marble, or schist, but doesn’t carry with it the heavy weight that installing its mother stone would. The flipside is that its thinness makes it less durable than other types of materials.

Benefits of Traditional Stone Veneer for Cape Coral Luxury Homes

Homeowners looking for that gorgeous stonework look don’t have to wait for the rocks to be quarried when using stone veneer. Because of this, there are advantages in costs, time, and ease that can’t be said for real stone.

Costs: Traditional stone veneers are lower in cost than natural stone siding. Since it is manufactured from concrete and cement it is inexpensive to produce and to install. Estimates place this investment at up to half of what a real natural stone installation would cost.

Time: Less time is required to install stone veneers primarily because it doesn’t take as much support. The footings and ties that must be set in place to hold and attach heavier natural stones take a lot of time and effort. Manufactured stone veneers are lighter in weight and designed to adhere easily to a variety of structurally sound surfaces that many natural stone projects would find difficult, slow-moving, and expensive to complete.

Ease: There is less likelihood of delays in ordering and receiving the materials, installing the materials, and adjusting it to fit unique areas in a home’s structure.

The versatility of manufactured stone veneer, along with its beautiful aesthetics makes it a definite consideration when thinking about improving Cape Coral luxury homes.
