There are plenty of Marco Island real estate owners who take pride in their record collections. Folks have everything from the Beatles and Led Zeppelin to Pink Floyd and modern classics, such as The Clash. Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Florida Realty like to examine some homeowners’ favorites.

Paula Jenkins is a single mother of one who recently purchased a 2-bedroom home for sale in Marco Island. For many years, she has had a schoolgirl crush on Ricky Martin. After all, the extremely successful Grammy Award and Latin Grammy Award-winner from Puerto Rico reminds her of her parents and their heritage. Martin rose to international fame as a member of the Menudo, then as a solo artist since 1991. He is considered to have opened the doors for success in English-speaking countries for some of his fellow Hispanic-styled singers, as he has sold over 55 million albums around the world, charting twenty-one Top 10 hits on the US Latin Charts, eight of which reaching #1, and a total of over 30 hit singles.

Paula boyfriend Dave Green prefers listening to classic rock records when he visits her. In fact, Dave recently purchased Van Halen’s 1982 classic, Diver Down for Paula’s teenage son. He wants to reach the boy the good stuff. Diver Down sat on the US album charts for 65 weeks, selling 4 million copies in the United States alone. The album cover displays the “diver down” flag used in maritime signaling to indicate a diver is currently submerged in the area, and caution is advised to nearby boats. Familiar hits include the Roy Orbison cover “Pretty Woman,” “Intruder” and “Big Bad Bill,” featuring Eddie Van Halen’s father, Jan, playing the clarinet.

Being a long-haired metal fan of Eighties music, Dave also appreciates Whitesnake. In fact, his favorite LP may be the band’s self-titled debut from 1987. The British boys sold over eight million copies. The album peaked at #2 on the Billboard chart with three major hits, “Still of the Night,” “Here I Go Again” and the #1 single “Is This Love.”

Dave’s mother, Maureen Green recently retired and moved into a Marco Island luxury home just down the street from him. For decades, Maureen has favored soul music, like Fulfillingness’ First Finale. The landmark album by Stevie Wonder released in 1974 projects a reflective and somber tone. The musical arrangements used in several songs are largely stripped down and more personal sounding. The #1 hit “You Haven’t Done Nothin’” launched a pointed criticism of the Nixon administration with a crunching funk rhythm. Fulfillingness’ First Finale even went on to win Album of the Year in 1974.

Maureen also gets a kick out of the late Jerry Goldsmith’s work on Star Trek: The Motion Picture Soundtrack. The work from 1979 is widely considered by many to be spot-on perfect, as he weaves a tapestry of interstellar sounds.  His score knows no boundaries, as it will live long and prosper.

While no two Marco Island homeowners’ record collections are exactly the same, they each have special meaning to every individual.
