Disregard the earth-shattering news from August of 1977 when the King died. Elvis is alive and doing quite well making regular appearances all over South Florida these days. It’s true. Kendall real estate owners can now spot “The King” at clubs, restaurants, and casinos. “Thank you. Thank you very much,” the actors say repeatedly.

When Elvis Presley died, the world stood still. The legendary rock star from Memphis was 42 when he lost a fatal battle to cardiac arrhythmia caused by prescription drugs. The man’s charismatic blues, pelvic thrusts, and striking good looks stand as a timeless part of our society. After all, iconic talent like Dylan, Lennon and the mighty Zeppelin would cease to exist if it weren’t for Elvis’s sexual voice and presence over the radio, onstage and projected on the big screen. His extraordinary influence is still experienced to this day, as the historical figure in popular culture.

Often taking the stage after a crew of striking jazz players, Elvis impersonators continually impress men and women with homes for sale in Kendall with their spot-on interpretations of Mr. Presley’s classics, ranging from “Can’t Help Falling in Love” to Jailhouse Rock” and “All Shook Up.” The cool cats in side-burns shake their hips and raise one lip in a familiar fashion. Draped in jumpsuits with gold stars and a cape, Elvis impersonators flaunt several rings, thick glasses, and often wears Hawaiian lays. The vocalists usually walk around the intimate settings of about fifty Floridians, as well as tourists from up North. The romantics work the rooms, captivating ladies of all ages with recognizable tunes from the 1950s, ‘60s, and ‘70s.

Other memorable songs often heard include sweet melodies, as well as lesser-known singles, including “Viva Las Vegas,” “Don’t Be Cruel,” and “Steamroller Blues.” One impersonator in Kendall recently answered a request to serenade a newly engaged maiden, Mary Carter, with “Love Me Tender.” The audience laughed when he spoke with a good ole’ Southern accent after many numbers.

“Elvis was the most beautiful person in the world,” one Kendall luxury homeowner who works as an impersonator said. “Mr. Presley blessed us with a lot of things that most people don’t understand. I just want to try to keep his memory alive, I don’t try to pretend to be the best Elvis in the world, I just try to keep the music alive the best that I can. And Lord knows, I have lots of fun doing it.”

The Elvis lookalike has been singing Elvis since he was 8-years-old throughout the Sunshine State. What began as a gag became his career for well over 30 years now.  On top of the regular gig at a couple different restaurants in the Kendall area, his shows can be seen routinely on Carnival Cruise Lines, in Downtown Fort Lauderdale, and at parties, as well as conventions throughout Miami-Dade, Broward Counties, and Palm Beach Counties. The mock Elvis even performs at enormous hotels in Las Vegas. Not bad for a local boy.
