“Instant Karma” is an all-star album benefiting Amnesty International’s campaign to end the Darfur genocide. John had always insisted that “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” is a based on his four-year-old son’s painting of a classmate, Lucy. He also claimed that the trippy images in the song were inspired by the ‘Wool and Water’ chapter in Lewis Carroll’s Through The Looking Glass, and there is no connection to his song’s initials, LSD, and the mind-altering drug.
Well, with or without hallucinogens, the Fly’s remake will never compare to the Walrus’s “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.” Too bad that pretty much every track on Across the Universe lacks John’s genuine emotion. It can never be duplicated. It’s been 27 years since the godly poet’s untimely death, and his enduring messages still continue to shine on, like the moon and the stars and the sun.
