As thousands of Cape Coral real estate owners may have seen, FOX News reported on the drastic weight loss of actors and actresses in order to play memorable roles. Journalist Hollie McKay reported that such severe dieting often leads to eating disorders for people. According to the National Association of Anorexia and Associated Disorders, up to 10 million women and 1 million men living in the US have to fight off eating disorders on a daily basis. McKay questions if the extreme diets of Hollywood megastars can lead to eating disorders. After all, millions of American spectators are looking up to role models with unhealthy body images.

Often times, folks with homes for sale in Cape Coral blame the media for eating disorders in the US. “Movie roles can indeed induce eating disorders,” psychologist, Dr. Nancy B. Irwin explained to Fox News. “Actors, understandably, must morph for certain demands of the role. It can be done with extreme diligence and care of the body, but a proper mindset, medical doctor, nutritionist and psychologist or psychiatrist’s guidance is often needed.”

Back in 2006, R&B pop star Beyonce dropped plenty of weight by consuming only maple syrup and lemon juice for her role in Dream Girls. In 2010, the famously thin Natalie Portman dropped 20 pounds to play a professional ballerina in Black Swan, and Christian Bale won an Oscar for his skinny role in The Fighter. Meanwhile, Jennifer Hudson dropped a staggering 80 pounds to play Mrs. Mandela in the historical film Winnie.

Extreme dieting does not just stop with the ladies in Cape Coral homes for sale. Shedding major weight affects some of the most respected actors in Hollywood. In 1980, Robert De Niro took home Oscar gold after he put on and lost 60 pounds in his memorable portrayal of real-life boxer Jake La Motta in Raging Bull. Along the same lines, Edward Norton bulked up in 1998 to play a murdering neo-Nazi in American History X. Two years later, the multitalented Tom Hanks shed 55 pounds for Cast Away. Matt Damon has also become well known for adding and dropping major weight for his many of his roles, including The Bourne Identity in 2002. Another Hollywood hunk, Christian Bale, won Best Supporting Actor in 2010 for dropping to skin and bones to play a memorable drug-addict in The Fighter. It may not be so easy for an individual to appear as skinny as the stars of La La Land, Star Wars Rogue One, and Hacksaw Ridge. Yet, Hollywood is busy throwing these thin physiques in our faces.

Numerous doctors around the nation have voiced their fears about such notable names playing dramatic roles involving major weight loss. Many health professionals claim that their work can lead moviegoers to unhealthy interests in slimming in their own physiques. Children in Cape Coral luxury homes want to be just like their favorite characters on the big screen, such as professional boxers and secret agents. However, such ambitions can often be dangerous for movie fans. Too often, viewers do not understand that these actors are merely playing roles, not role models.
