“Layla” is the title track on the Derek and the Dominos. It stands as one of the industry’s definitive singles and a favorite among Plantation real estate owners. Released on 1970’s Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs. Here are some interesting details to know about the session that resulted in an all-time classic record.

“Layla” is one of the biggest and best collaborations in the history of modern music, as it contains both Clapton and the legendary Duane Allman. While Eric fingered a Gibson guitar, his friend Duane stepped in as a guest and played a Fender. Mr. Allman’s guitar work on the track influenced Clapton to begin playing a slide guitar.

The song was inspired by Clapton’s unrequited love for a married woman. The beautiful lady who turned the legendary guitarist’s whole world upside down was Pattie Boyd, the wife of his Fab friend, the late George Harrison. Like a fool, Clapton fell desperately in love with her.

Boyd divorced Harrison in 1977 and married Clapton in 1979. Harrison didn’t hold a grudge. In fact, he attended their wedding with both Paul and Ringo. Of course, the two got a divorce twelve years later. The famous song’s title was motivated by the Persian love story, The Story of Layla / Layla and Majnun, by the poet Nizami. The literature is about a moon-princess who goes mad after being married off to a caller despite their lack of love.

In 1983, the ARMS Charity Concert for Multiple Sclerosis in London included a jam with Clapton, Jeff Beck, and Mr. Jimmy Page. The Yardbirds’ lead guitarists from 1963 to 1968 recreated a historical live rendition of “Layla.” And who can hear the familiar piano exit to “Layla” and not think of Scorsese’s 1990 paramount gangster flick, Goodfellas?  In 1992, Clapton’s Unplugged featured an extraordinary version of “Layla.” The slower paced work even beat out “Smells Like Teen Spirit” for the Best Rock Song Grammy Award. In the year 2000, Q magazine placed the CD at number 71 in its list of the 100 Greatest British Albums Ever. “Layla” was named 27th on Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Songs of All Time and 16th place on VH1’s 100 Greatest Songs of Rock and Roll.

Another guitar classic among men and women in homes for sale in Plantation comes from Jimmy Page of the mighty Led Zeppelin. Page created a droning effect with a bow twice on the crew’s self-titled first album, “Dazed and Confused” and “How Many More Times.”  He later used the trick during the recording of “In the Light” and “In the Evening.”

Under a foggy spotlight onstage, Jimmy used to sway his stick over his electric piece as if he were playing metal on a cello. He proceeded to beat his strings with a violin bow, as he tickled the neck’s chords with speed and precision. Page would sometimes pull out the musical weapon and hypnotize an entire amphitheater with the song’s popular solo. It was usually improvised showy moves in a slower overall tempo. The pace would soon speed up into an extended jam that Plantation luxury homeowners in his audience will never forget.
