When it comes to musicians who Punta Gorda real estate owners tend to appreciate, Sir Elton John is always at the top of their lists. After all, the knighted artist has had quite the impressive career spanning both decades and continents.

In terms of sales and royal rock star status, Elton John was the biggest pop superstar of the early 1970s. Sure, the Zeppelin was still in flight, but thousands of men and women with homes for sale in Punta Gorda preferred the Englishman’s melodic skills, dynamic charisma, and flamboyant stage shows. In fact, he managed to sustain his popularity, charting a Top 40 single every year from 1970 to 1996, which is quite a remarkable feat for any pop star.

There are a few different Elton records that every rock fan should possess. Madman Across the Water is the man’s 1971 gift to the music world. The piano, the voice, the arrangements, and the lyrics told the industry that a serious and professional talent was emerging. Perhaps the greatest song of Elton’s extraordinary career, “Tiny Dancer” is found on the timeless classic.

The following year, Honky Chateau became available to the public. This is the first cut since his debut not to contain strings on any songs, while it contains his first harder rocking sound, as evident on songs such as the funky Honky Cat featuring a three-piece horn section.

Then Goodbye Yellow Brick Road was released. It stands as one of Elton John’s crowning achievements. Three of the crisp sounding chart toppers, “Bennie & The Jets,” “Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting,” and the title track justify the 1973 work as a masterpiece.

Another knight that truly belongs in your Punta Gorda luxury home is Sir Paul McCartney. Not unlike the other Beatles, the man began his solo career in the 1960s.  By the end of the decade, Paul married Linda Eastman and began piecing together his first solo album, McCartney. The record was a financial success, spending three weeks at the top of the American charts. The following year, Paul and wife collaborated to make a new record, Ram.

Paul’s first two solo records, 1970’s McCartney and 1971’s Ram were filled with acoustic numbers, including “Junk”, “Teddy Boy,” and “Heart of the Country.” In 1971, Paul and Linda McCartney formed a band of their own, Wings, in order to hit the road and the recording studio together. The band’s first album, Wild Life, hit the stores in late 1971. The record received unfavorable reviews and was a relative flop. A couple of years later, Wings recorded Red Rose Speedway. While it received more weak reviews from critics on both sides of the Atlantic, the LP became Paul’s second American number one album.

Wings hit the road for their first British tour by the close of 1971.  While on the road in 1971, Wings’ theme to the James Bond movie, “Live and Let Die,” became a Top Ten hit in the U.S. and U.K. The band finally received positive reviews in 1973 with Band on the Run.
