Van Halen formed decades ago. They enjoyed immediate popularity and influence with the release of their debut, Van Halen in 1978. Decades later, the crew has sold more than 80 million copies worldwide and still tours the globe. They are even listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for the most number one hits on the Billboard Mainstream Rock List. Van Halen is #19 on the list of top-selling artists of all time having sold more than 56 million LPs in the U.S., according to the Recording Industry Association of America. As many Palm Beach Gardens real estate owners may know, the boys were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the 2000s.

Fair Warning is a modern classic that captures the young and invigorated band at their peak with timeless rhythms, such as “Push Comes to Shove” and “So This is Love.”  Van Halen’s 1982 Diver Down spent 65 weeks on the US charts  and sold a whopping 4 million copies in the United States. The cover displays the “diver down” flag used in maritime signaling to indicate a diver is currently submerged in the area, and caution is advised to nearby boats. Hits include the Roy Orbison cover “Pretty Woman,” “Intruder” and “Big Bad Bill,” featuring Eddie Van Halen’s talented father, Jan, playing the clarinet.

There is no question among classic rock fans with homes for sale in Palm Beach Gardens that Van Halen’s best work is 1984. After all, the 1980s were pretty weak when it comes to rock albums. The mighty Zeppelin had landed and Seattle grunge wasn’t discovered yetBut Van Halen’s sixth cut with Diamond David Lee Roth, 1984, or MCMLXXXIV brings their talent into focus and stands as timeless.

Peaking at #2 on the Billboard Magazine album charts, only behind Michael Jackson’s Thriller, which also featured Eddie Van Halen, 1984 contains the mainstream pop tunes and timeless classics “Panama,” the ZZ Top boogie riff-sounding “Hot for Teacher,” and the #1 single, “Jump.”  In fact, the cut’s first single, “Jump,” sold over three million copies. “Drop Dead Legs” and “House of Pain” are some underrated tracks on 1984, while “Girl Gone Bad” and the guitar growling “Top Jimmy” are another couple of hard hitting selections off the masterpiece. Their humorous videos being shared on MTV only attracted more fans.

Eddie flexed his keyboard skills on the cut more than any previous LP. The classically trained pianist’s skills stand out during the one-minute long wistful synthesizer instrumental track “1984,” as well as a love song with a haunting melody and flashy solos, “I’ll Wait.” Meanwhile, some imaginative and humorous videos really introduced the band to a whole new audience of consumers.

Before David Lee Roth went solo for a while, before Sammy Hagar, and before the extremely cheesy Gary Cherone, Van Halen were the kings of both MTV and stadium rock. 1984 defines the long-haired giants and stands as a monumental achievement in a rock recording. Is 1984 in your Palm Beach Gardens luxury home?
