Parkland real estate owners love well-crafted Hollywood flicks. That’s why a friendly group of neighbors meets up once a week in a Parkland luxury home to view a modern classic. Most recently, the Parkland real estate owners viewed and chatted about Mel Gibson’s Apocalypto.

Meeting in one of Jay Philips several homes for sale in Parkland, he explained that the word “apocalypto” means to “uncover, disclose, or reveal.” But Apocalypto is also director Mel Gibson’s delightful release. It is the depiction of one man’s frightening experience during the decline of the ancient Maya civilization in Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula just before Spanish contact.

Getting cozy in one of Jay’s Parkland homes for sale, participants realized it is not an everyday Hollywood flick. Rather, it begins with a quotation; “A great civilization is not conquered from without until it has destroyed itself from within.”

True, Apocalypto contains subtitles, but they are minimal. The Parkland real estate owners didn’t let the reading turn them off, as the film is an action-packed adventure not containing much dialogue. It features all unknown actors from around the world, and Apocalypto has no opening credits. Also, the Parkland real estate owners liked how the sets were based on actual buildings, rather than computer-generated images.

The Parkland real estate owners watched in awe as an invading force threatens a culture’s existence. One courageous native, Jaguar Paw, awakes from a nightmare to witness strangers raiding his village. The central character is captured, much to the dismay of the Parkland real estate owners.

In the city’s outskirts, the females are sold as slaves, while the men are either slaughtered right away or sacrificed by a high priest. Before a crowd of thousands, the holy man pulls out the gentlemen’s beating heart and decapitates them. Numerous Parkland real estate owners had to look away.

When Jaguar Paw is on the altar for a ceremonial killing, a solar eclipse takes place, causing the priest not to strike. But the natural phenomenon occurs in only a few seconds. Jay told the other that eclipses take place over several hours, with the moon moving at a constant pace throughout.

Parkland real estate owners saw the captives being released into a bloody game. They are made to run the length of the field in pairs, while the raiders target them with javelins, arrows and stones. The Parkland real estate owners were captivated.

Jaguar Paw is the only one who successfully reaches freedom. But in his journey, he is forced to kill one of the top antagonist’s son, Cut Rock. The enraged father and his crew then pursue Jaguar Paw into the mighty jungle. The Parkland real estate owners viewed the expedition, with him hiding in trees, swimming through a pool of mud, leaping over a waterfall, and tossing a beehive on his pursuers.

Without giving away the ending, just know that Parkland real estate owners loved seeing Apocalypto. The Parkland real estate owners agree that Gibson’s movie is a timeless work of art.
