2. Weekends Should Be Avoided. Another super busy time is the weekend. If at all possible, try and move during the week. You will more than likely have your choice of vehicles and you might even find lower rates offered during that time. Plan on moving sometime between Sunday and Thursday.

3. Check Your Homeowner’s Insurance Policy. There is always a possibility of your belongings becoming damaged during a move, even if you are doing it hands-on. 4. Learn About the Equipment. Give yourself time to learn about the equipment you are renting. You want to feel comfortable driving and securing the vehicle, as well as any additional pieces of equipment you may decide to rent. You also want to be sure and point out any dings or defects you see so that you don’t get charged with damaging the rental. Ask questions and take time to during the rental process to become familiar with all its features and operating procedures.

5. Strategically Pack Boxes. Try to start packing days ahead of your move. Select and box a few items each day. Clearly write what the box contains and where you plan on having it unpacked. Once you are done packing and ready to pack up the moving vehicle, load the heaviest items first. Try to keep them on the floor and then build from there.
