Good movies these days are few and far between. But there are always a few old comedies that will make you laugh until your cry. For instance, you can see 1981’s Porky’s, Bachelor Party, from 1984 with Tom Hanks, and The 40-Year-Old Virgin from the year 2005 for Coral Gables real estate owners to watch after the kids go to bed. Launching his career as a Hollywood bigshot, Steve Carell stars as Andy, a nerdy employee at an electronics store, SmartTech.

The middle-aged man lives in an apartment full of comic books and childlike action figures. His weekend plans involve cooking for himself and watching Survivor. Of course, he does not have a license and is happy to ride a bike around town. After he becomes friendly with three of his co-workers, including Knocked Up’s Seth Rogen, they all set out on a mission to get Andy laid.

Men and women with homes for sale in Coral Gables think the most memorable scenes in The 40-Year-Old Virgin entail the boys Drinking Irish Car Bombs, references to Michael McDonald, Curious George, and Everybody Loves Raymond, Carell’s female boss serenading him with a love song about her Guatemalan gardener, a Tijuana story about a show on stage that induced pity of for a horse, and an intoxicated lady who drives all over the road before she gets sick all over him.

In another hilarious part, Carell was filmed actually having his “Teen Wolf” chest waxed. Rather than trimming the hair before filming to lessen the pain, the professional declined in favor of authenticity. Silly man. There’s also a priceless scene containing phenomenal dialogue while two of the guys are playing Mortal Kombat. They are playing an Xbox, but the characters are using Nintendo 64 controllers. Oops.

Eventually, after one of his buddies, Jay, hires Andy a call girl. What happens is a big surprise for every character involved. The mishap convinces Carell to take matters into his own hands, and he lands a date with an attractive mother of three. Their first date goes very well but gets broken up before they seal the deal. They decide to take things slowly. It all goes extremely well until they finally reach the twentieth date, at which point Andy panics and storms out. But it all works out.

Without giving away the ending, just know Carell finally admits his huge secret and the two go off together as lovers. The 40-Year-Old Virgin wraps up with Carell on his wedding night. Then the scene transforms an over-the-top Hair-style musical bit in which the full cast sings and dances to the song “Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In.”

Deleted scenes featured on The 40-Year-Old Virgin DVD has some extremely funny moments, like Andy singing karaoke to himself, and the fellas all hanging out. This film is hilarious, and a Coral Gables luxury homeowner can easily see how Carell went on to quickly score a leading role in the successful sitcom, The Office, and several other memorable films, like 2006’s Little Miss Sunshine.
