There are literally thousands of men, women, and children living on Fort Myers real estate that appreciate screwball comedies from the 2000s. For instance, Marcus Cooper lives with his wife, son, and daughter in a 4-bedroom house that’s currently on the market. Just last night, they all got together on the couch and enjoyed some popcorn as they watched the silly flick from 2007, Epic Movie.

The comedy is director/screenwriting team Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer’s farce of the Hollywood industry. With no big names in the cast, there are several scenes that rip off giant blockbusters, ranging from Star Wars, Scarface, Willy Wonka and Snakes on A Plane to Borat, Superman and silly goblins from Harry Potter. The story centers on four grown-up orphans. The first one was raised by a curator at the historic Louvre, where an albino assassin also resides.

Later, the audience is introduced to a Mexican wrestler, as well as a victim of flying with reptiles, and of a mutant X-community. Upon visiting a chocolate factory, the quartet is transported to the land of Gnarnia, spelled with a “G.” After teaming up with more characters, including a pirate captain and students of wizardry, the crew successfully defeats the evil witch. Sure, Epic Movie is immature. While it is certainly more entertaining than every reality TV show on your cable or satellite dish, Epic Movie will never compare to a modern classic, like Airplane!

But that is not the only fun entertainment for folks with homes for sale in Fort Myers to enjoy watching. The same year, The Flight of the Conchords was released as a 12-part series on HBO. Starring comedians Rob Brydon, Arj Barker, and Rhys Darby, the mocumentary centers around Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement. The two boys have labeled themselves “New Zealand’s fourth most popular folk-parody duo.” The fellas utilize a combination of witty banter and acoustic guitars to work their comedy on audiences worldwide. The show revolves around the foreigners trying to achieve success as a working band in New York City.

Before the pair was on cable, Flight of the Conchords released Folk The World Tour – Live Album in 2002. Soon after, the two performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where they returned in both 2003 and 2004. The next year, BBC Radio 2 broadcast its first radio series. Largely improvised, it featured Rob Brydon as the narrator, Rhys Darby as the manager and Jimmy Carr as a devoted fan. Fort Myers luxury homeowners caught them a few months later in America when HBO gave the Flight of the Conchords their own Friday night special on the half-hour stand-up comedy series One Night Stand. Besides a British mobile phone retailer, Jemaine Clement has also appeared in commercials for Outback Steakhouse in the States.

The artists started to earn livings by creating original folk-influenced music. But the team’s real breakthrough came in 2001 when the specific music reached New Zealand in the form of a Roger Whittaker record. Suddenly homeowners all around the world understood the vibe, and the music became New Zealand’s biggest entertainment.
