Just last week, thousands of Fort Lauderdale real estate owners of various ages flocked to Hard Rock Live at Seminole Hard Rock Café and Hotel to experience Roger Daltry recreate much of his ensemble’s classic catalog, including radio hits and a few rarities. The Who’s vocalist is on a trek while guitarist Pete Townshend is taking a year off. In other words, the concert did not compare to seeing the Who in the past.

The 73-year-old Englishman took the stage waiving to the crowd of middle-aged concertgoers. Wearing black jeans, a white button down and sunglasses, Daltry was holding a pair of tambourines. He kicked off a fresh performance with the renowned instrumental “Overture” from Tommy. Behind the singer stood lead guitarist Frank Simes in a black leather jacket with a bright red handkerchief poking out of the chest pocket and jeans. While Pete Townshend is off enjoying his yearlong retreat, his bald-headed brother Simon Townshend was handling the rhythm guitar in jeans and a t-shirt. But the show was disappointing compared to Daltry’s previous shows in the area.

Tens of thousands of music lovers with homes for sale in Fort Lauderdale can still picture the two remaining members of The Who, Roger Daltry, and Pete Townshend, onstage together a few years ago in South Florida. The classic rock icons relived decades’ old material, along with some more recent numbers, to captivate spectators’ ears for almost 2 hours. The boys kicked off with “Can’t Explain,” and a couple of giant monitors showed classic footage of the talent in the 1960s and 70s from 50 years ago. Daltry sang about Bob Dylan and the Beatles in “The Seeker,” while Townshend flaunted an unbelievable energy onstage. The legendary guitarist stepped to the microphone and claimed, “These songs are about you as much as they are about us.”

Recreations of “Who Are You,” as well as “Behind Blue Eyes” were phenomenal. Many of the audience members took bathroom breaks during the next few unrecognizable ditties. However, everyone hurried back to their seats for the undeniable highlight of the evening, “Baba O’Riley.” The crowd went nuts as lights strobed to Daltry blowing a harmonica with tremendous speed. Meanwhile, Townshend threw manic windmill arm strokes around his instrument. This is the man who refined the art of smashing guitars and speakers onstage, as commonly seen in the 1990s superstars, like Nirvana and Pearl Jam. Thousands were still on their feet for “My Generation,” as well as the radio favorite “Won’t Get Fooled Again.”

After a short encore break, The Who reappeared with a memorable version of “Pinball Wizard.” Besides watching Mick Jagger onstage at a Rolling Stones show, most folks do not remember seeing a well-aged rock star perform with as much energy as Townshend. No, The Who’s fevered pitch was not comparable to their Woodstock performance, but people can’t explain how these grandparents in the 60s still possess the vigor of high school kids bouncing around the stage. Fort Lauderdale luxury homeowners tend to agree, they just don’t make them like they used to.
