Preparing themselves for U2’s next jaunt, The Joshua Tree Tour in Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium on July 11th, Coral Gables real estate owners can enjoy the timeless concert film, Rattle and Hum. The film portrays U2 returning to rock and roll’s roots on a pilgrimage through American blues, gospel, and rock.

In 1988, the Irish band invited a 40-member film crew on the second leg of the Joshua Tree Tour in the States and it became a big Hollywood affair, released in full-size theaters. It ceases to be a documentary, as it offers no new information to U2 fans. Director Phil Joanou’s movie received enormous promotion and publicity, turning many U2 fans off. Regardless, the material on “Rattle and Hum” makes for the ultimate U2 DVD in any home for sale in Coral Gables.

The PG-13 film, and the subsequent album open with a line about the infamous murderer, Charles Manson, and cover the Beatles’ “Helter Skelter.” “Desire” is about the contradictions of being a successful rock star. Tracing rock’s American roots, the four musicians visited Elvis’ home at Graceland, as well as church gospels in Harlem for Rattle and Hum. U2 performed the bluesy single, “When Love Comes to Town,” alongside legend B.B. King. U2 also performs Bob Dylan’s “All Along the Watchtower.”

May folks with Coral Gables homes for sale think that the best number is “God Part II,” a direct response to John Lennon’s “God,” his outlook on the world in 1970. Of course, Bono is a fantastic writer and “Part II” is extremely more poetic, using symbolism, quoting modern journalists and making fun of himself.

Bono dives right into deep water when he kicks off his version by disclaiming his love for God. Right away, the listener feels the distance between the rock star and the church.  Bono claims “Success is to give.” Bono mocks himself when he sings, “Don’t believe in riches, But you should see where I live.” The man owns exquisite homes all around the world, including Dublin, New York City, Miami and next door to Elton John in the South of France.

Bono’s devilish alter-ego, along with its hidden desires, brilliantly appears when he claims not to believe in “forced entry,” “But every time she passes by, Wild thoughts escape.” There’s a reference to peace when he disregards an “Uzi” for his belief in love. The Irishman does not believe in drugs as he has “a speedball” in his head. It may be hard for listeners to understand why he would have a natural high after the nightly experience of a stadium’s worth of fans reciting his poetry word for word. He refers to the Beatles changing global cultures with rock and roll. The politician uses a double entendre when he describes the world spiraling “in revolution.” He illustrates spinning on a wheel, as opposed to merely watching it go round and round. Rather than avoiding the public eye, Bono embraces the attention like a true rock star. Coral Gables luxury homeowners cannot wait to see him perform live.
