Five Answers You Need to Know Before Repairing an Appliance

You never think about how much you rely on those home appliances in Weston luxury homes until one of them goes out. From the dishwasher and washing machine to the stove, microwave or water heater, there really is nothing too exciting about having to repair an appliance in Weston luxury homes, except that you hopefully won’t have to replace it.

But before you get started down the appliance repair road and pay a repair person for an initial assessment, there are five answers you should know. This will give you a better idea whether you will need to repair or replace the appliance in Weston luxury homes even before you talk to anyone about the breakdown.

  1. The Age of the Appliance.

There are some general lifespans for most major appliances. There may be some slight variations in time. But generally, the following appliances can be expected to work for the following number of years:

  • Microwave: 5 years
  • Dishwasher: 9 years
  • Washer: 10 years
  • Freezer: 11 years
  • Dryer/Refrigerator: 13 years
  • Range/Oven: 15 years

If the appliance in question is more than halfway toward the end of its life expectancy, than you may need to seriously consider replacing it. Some reasons why you might want to keep it is if it happens to be an antique. If so, it may be worth some money whether or not it is working.

Another hard fact is if technology has made the appliance obsolete. Then you may have no other choice but to replace it.

  1. The Warranty Deadline.

You need to pull the product warranty before you call for repair. Check to see if the appliance is still within the manufacturer’s warranty period or if it falls under an extended warranty. Some retailers will offer a warranty that extends past the manufacturer’s warranty. This type of warranty isn’t one that you purchase and needs to be verified so that you don’t spend money for repairs that are covered by warranty.

  1. Troubleshooting Steps.

Go through the troubleshooting steps first. This may fix the issue without you ever having to interrupt your regular routine.

Most owner’s manuals for appliances have a troubleshooting section. Go through this section and follow the instructions. Just doing this may save you a lot of money.

You might also want to look through Weston luxury homes for tripped circuit breakers or surge protectors that have been turned off. They may just need to be reset by simply shutting them down, waiting 60 seconds and then powering the appliance up again. This resets the appliance’s internal circuit board and will bring it back to its factory settings in most cases.

  1. Appliance.

How often do you use this appliance? Will it interrupt everyday life if it is not repaired? Or, would you really not miss it too much? If it is a built-in appliance in Weston luxury homes than you may not have too much of a choice. Built-ins may actually be harder to repair and more costly to replace.

  1. Costs for Repair or Replacement.

Price check appliances. You may just find that the purchase price of a newer energy-efficient model will offset the cost of repairs by its savings in utility costs. You also may receive a tax credit or rebate from the utility company that also should be calculated when thinking about repair or replacement.

One rule of thumb: Replace the appliance if repairs will cost more than half the price of a new appliance.
