It doesn’t matter if you are referring to baby-booms, generation X, or even millennials, Fort Myers real estate owners tend to appreciate the vinyl collections far more than any CDs or digital formats. Not only is the cover art often magnificent, but the old-school records usually create an authentic vibe.

Let’s take a look at Marcus Jones. Now in his fifties, Marcus has been collecting records ever since the Seventies, when the mighty Led Zeppelin ruled the airways. In fact, Marcus still has the first record he ever bought, the band’s self-titled debut. The monsters of rock’s first record debuted defined the blues influence rock that sold out arenas. Led Zeppelin reworks Delta classics, such as Otis Rush’s “I Can’t Quit You Baby” and Howlin’ Wolf’s epic “How Many More Times,” along with extended tracks, such as “Dazed and Confused.”

Marcus’s wife, Jess, also likes her collection of albums. Of course, she prefers tunes that aren’t quite as old or heavy, like Fleetwood Mac “Save Me.” The single was one of their Billboard toppers in 1990 that sold significantly better in the UK than in the States. Found on the LP, Behind The Mask, “Save Me” veers away from the stylized sound the band had started with. Another one of her favorites is Chuck Mangione’s jazzy 70 Miles Young. Written for his father, Chuck’s work contains hits, including the “Cannonball Run Theme” and “Recruedo.” Just like Jess, many other folks with homes for sale in Fort Myers consider the 1978 record to be a magnificent masterpiece.

When they play the ZZ Top Tres Hombres record, both Marcus and Jess immediately remember seeing ZZ Top live in South Florida. Like they did onstage, the sharp-dressed men from Texas rev up rock, blues, soul, and garage-funk.  The vintage recording from the early Seventies contains gems, such as “Waitin’ For The Bus” and “La Grange.”

For Valentines Day earlier this year, Jess decided to purchase a few records for Markus. She wanted to mix it up a bit. Perhaps that is why Jess bought Jose Feliciano’s Encore! After all, it captures the man finest performances on vinyl. Released in 1971, This album contains the singer, guitarist and composer’s most popular singles, including “Light My Fire,” “Rain,” “Hitchcock Railway,” “California Dreamin’,” and the instrumentals and “Malaguena.”

Jess also grabbed a few cheesy records just to make her husband laugh. For instance, she gave him Jennifer Lopez’s Get Right, the single from the album Rebirth. The beat outshines Jennifer’s voice, while the great sax hook helped make 2005’s “Get Right” a UK Number One single in 2005. Jess was also excited to give her man Estefan & Miami Sound Machine’s 1988 record Let It Loose. It went multi-platinum, with six million copies sold alone in the US. Songs she made sure to make Marcus sing along to include the #1 singles “Anything for You,” “1, 2, 3,” “Betcha Say That” and “Rhythm Is Gonna Get You.”

When it comes to their beloved records, the Fort Myers luxury homeowners are like a couple of children.
