Homeowners Deal with Irma’s Aftermath

As the whole nation already knows, South Florida got hit by a nasty hurricane on Sunday night. Miami Beach was flooded, as were Fort Lauderdale and the Palm Beaches. The West Coast, such as Naples and Tampa, experienced plenty of damage as well. Trees are down, power is out and the Sunshine State is as hot as imaginable for those without working air conditioning. Let’s take a look at some of the different damage experienced around Windermere FL real estate.

Chuck Turner is a 43-year-old stockbroker who lives on the 18th floor of a gorgeous apartment building on Miami Beach. Despite the warnings to get out of town before the hurricane wiped out his residence, Chuck decided to stay put. Fortunately, neither the man nor his property experienced any damage. Of course, there has been no power for several days. That means that Chuck must take the stairs 18 flights up and down whenever he needs anything. And without any power, his portable phones do not work. In other words, he has to go downstairs and across the parking lot to communicate on his smartphone. At least Chuck gets to enjoy the cold AC while he’s chatting away in his parked car for hours at a time.

Living in a home for sale in Windermere FL, not far from Orlando, a 35-year-old businesswoman named Dana Carter experienced even worse damage after the last hurricane. The woman now has no fence surrounding her back yard. Each one of her neighbors can say the same. While it is certainly interesting to see what everyone’s yards look like, the lack of fences has caused a huge problem. It seems that every house on the block has at least one dog. Those like Dana who rely on a doggy door while they are at work, now have to lock their canines in all day. Otherwise, they will roam the neighborhood and get into trouble. But the spoiled dogs with tiny bladders don’t seem to like this arrangement. And they haven’t been shy about letting their owners see why.

Then there are the lucky ones, like Mary Lyons. The young sales rep lives with her husband and two kids in a Windermere FL luxury home. Fortunately for the family, Mary’s residents never lost power. That means that she had full power to watch cable, surf the internet, and enjoy the cool AC throughout the hurricane. Of course, Mary wasn’t so lucky about a decade ago. When Hurricane Wilma went through her old neighborhood in South Florida, she was out of juice for ten days. At least her family had a generator and the neighbors would all come by to store drinks in their fridge. Regardless, it was a giant pain in the neck for every home in her neighborhood.

At least all Florida homeowners are now aware of the dangerous impacts that a natural disaster can have on their residents. With the right preparation, we can all keep our homes, as well as our families, nice and safe.
