Men, women, and children living in Coral Gables real estate, as well as the rest of South Florida are ecstatic to experience Roger Waters’ Us + Them tour coming to town next week. On Thursday, July 13, the bass player and mastermind behind the legendary Pink Floyd will be headlining at American Airlines Arena in Miami. Folks can prepare for next week’s amazing concert by watching Roger Waters’ video, The Wall Concert in Berlin.

Drawing over half a million spectators to one massive concert commemorating the fall of the Berlin Wall, Roger Waters gives music lovers yet another golden gem. The Wall Concert in Berlin took place in July of 1990, seven months after the historical wall crumbled. Waters built a 550-foot long and 82-foot high wall in Potsdamer Platz, a location formerly known as “no man’s land” around the wall. The show sold out its 200,000 tickets, while a few hundred extra people were granted access at the last minute.

The Wall Concert in Berlin was broadcast live in 35 countries, allowing more than 500 million fans to enjoy the live show from their homes. Another interesting tidbit of information; at the request of the show’s prominent producers, part of the infamous Berlin Wall was kept in place as a security fence behind the stage.

The Wall Concert in Berlin contains several differences from Floyd’s original production, including extended introductions and solos by various instruments. Similarly, “Comfortably Numb” features longer dueling solos by the two guitarists, on top of an additional chorus at the end of the song. And the album’s “The Show Must Go On” is omitted completely. The Scorpions join Waters onstage to recreate “In the Flesh,” and Cyndi Lauper delivers “Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2).” The Wall’s “Mother” is performed by Sinéad O’Connor and The Band.

Waters once told a magazine that working with the bald-headed artist was a nightmare, as she was more concerned with her own image than actually helping others in need. San Francisco’s hippie Joni Mitchell gives a touching rendition of “Goodbye Blue Sky,” and the Canadian Bryan Adams joins Waters during “Empty Spaces/What Shall We Do Now,” before singing “Young Lust” on his own.  Most memorable is the Irish legend, Van Morrison’s partnership with Waters on “Comfortably Numb.” The live version can also be heard on Martin Scorsese’s soundtrack for the 2006 Oscar winning film, The Departed. One number, “The Trial,” even features actors playing the parts of students and a teacher in a classroom.

People with homes for sale in Coral Gables who have been seeing live shows for years are rather excited about next week’s presentation at American Airlines Arena. Some fans are even following the tour up to Tampa and New Orleans next week. After die hard Pink Floyd fans experienced Roger Waters’ The Dark Side of the Moon in West Palm Beach in 2007 and The Wall in Sunrise a few years later, Coral Gables luxury homeowners are quite aware that concerts just don’t get any better than this.
