When it comes time to sell any piece of Fort Myers real estate, the smells lingering throughout the property can make or break any deal. It makes no difference if you are selling an enormous mansion to a retired businessman, a townhouse to a young family, or a 1-bedroom condo to a millennial just out of college, the smell is of the utmost importance.

If you do not smoke cigarettes, think about the last time you got into a smoker’s car. The overwhelming stench may have made you sick. Well, the same thing can occur to folks who are looking to buy a new home.

The biggest problem experienced by cigarette smokers and pet owners is that they have become accustomed to the smells. Therefore, they do not realize it is even an issue.

All the incense and flowers that one can put out will not be able to mask the smell in a cigarette smoker’s home for sale. Trying to mask the problem can be useless, as well as offensive. People may come to an open house and not make it through the doorway.

The same can be said about dirty pets and any presents they leave behind. Dirty gym clothes, dirty towels, and stinky sneakers can have negative effects too. Be sure not to cook any onions, fish, or cabbage, and hide the garlic.

On the other hand, the right smell in a home for sale can lure men, women, and children right in. For example, the inviting aromas of freshly baked bread and cookies that linger throughout a property’s kitchen can make people feel right at home. Maybe try to make cinnamon buns and apple pie, or at least buy them for your kitchen.

That is why it is crucial that folks with homes for sale in Fort Myers stop smoking inside. Better yet, they should quit altogether. They will immediately smell better. They may live longer too. If quitting is simply too hard, folks should at least smoke their cancer sticks outdoors.

At the same time, homeowners looking to sell their properties should always hide all evidence of pets when showing their properties. Otherwise, all dogs should at least be kept on the porch. Get all boxes of kitty litter off the property, or at least in the garage. Hiding them in a bathroom does no good. Make sure the beds are made and the laundry is done. In other words, pretend your mother in law is coming over to your place for the first time. You must make a fabulous impression the very moment she, or any prospective buyer walks in your door.

While you are at it, it is always smart to clean old carpets, rugs, curtains, and comforters that look and smell beat up. Try to sell them on eBay, throw them into storage, or just give them away to Hurricane Irma victims in Cuba and Puerto Rico.

When the time comes to sell a Fort Myers luxury home, you need to terminate every smell on the property, not hide it.
