After the nasty hurricane ran through South Florida, Parkland real estate owners are happy to stay in and watch something entertaining on their televisions. But rather than any superheroes or reality TV, thousands of folks enjoy interesting documentaries. Let’s take a look at a couple of a homeowner’s best options to enjoy with the family.

It doesn’t matter if they are a senior citizen, middle-aged, millennials, or children, countless individuals appreciate the timeless work of Pink Floyd. That is why so many people enjoy The Making of The Dark Side of The Moon. One of the most extraordinary recordings in rock and roll history is carefully detailed in the 2003 documentary. All four members of Pink Floyd and key personnel discuss the masterpiece from 1973. It remained on bestseller charts for an astounding 14 years and spent a remarkable 1,380 weeks on the US Billboard Album Chart.

Produced for the Classic Albums series on DVD, the movie is a thought-provoking study that highlights a track-by-track dissection of the LP’s master tapes. Interviews are meshed with archival footage from the Abbey Road recording studio, Pink Floyd’s early demos, concert animations and acoustic performances by David Gilmour, Roger Waters, and Richard Wright. Other artists who contributed to the work share their tales as well, including saxophonist Dick Parry, solo vocalist Clare Torry, and the boys’ long-time engineer, Alan Parsons. In fact, Parsons recreates the familiar stereophonically projected footsteps and planes flying overhead, as heard in “On the Run,” and a roomful of ringing clocks, easily recognizable from “Time.”

Of course, not every person living in a home for sale in Parkland has an appreciation for classic rock documentaries. But just about everyone with a heart has to have an affection for adorable penguins. That is why 2005’s March of the Penguins is a fantastic feat. The Academy Award-winning documentary by Luc Jacquet depicts the unbelievable journeys of Antarctica’s emperor penguins. The movie’s narration is done by Morgan Freeman and his familiar voice, while the cinematography of the birds under the Northern Lights will put viewers in awe.

Taking one year to shoot the movie, March of the Penguins captures the breeding animals’ quest every autumn. First, all penguins at least five years old leave the ocean in order to walk miles inland to their ancestral breeding grounds, occasionally sliding on their bellies. On arrival, the penguins chose one mate to be monogamous with for the entire season. No one knows for sure exactly how the creatures pick each other.  If the couple successfully produces living chicks, the mother has to quest back and forth to the ocean for food, while dad keeps the young one warm. Meanwhile, the temperature is well below zero, and that’s not even including the wind.

There are plenty of DVD extras for Parkland luxury homeowners to enjoy. One even addresses some of the criticisms the movie attracted, most notably by reframing the film as a scientific study and adding facts to what would otherwise have been merely a family movie, rather than an education work of art.
