As every baby boomer who lives on Lakewood Ranch real estate already knows, there will never be another band comparable to the Beatles. The Fab Four wrote their own songs, painted pictures with lyrics, and recorded concept albums, expanding boundaries around the world. Before the Beatles led the British Invasion, rock music was looked down on by many media outlets in the States, including radio and television.  The exciting spell that the British groups cast on American youth was sensational, as well as momentous. The Invasion inspired America’s youth to form more groups, rather than solo artists. An example is the Byrds, who were known as the American Beatles, as they imitated the unified smoothness of the British style.

The Beatles were extremely influential to other artists around the globe. The prime example is the band’s 1967 album, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. The record established new standards for studio recording and created the notion of the musician as a true artist. English bands, such as the fearless Pink Floyd, as well as American musicians responded to Sgt. Pepper’s by experimenting with overlapping technologies and stylistic influences in the late 60s.

The four lads from Liverpool sang more down-to-earth lyrics in numbers such as “All You Need Is Love,” “Nowhere Man,” and “Norwegian Wood” than preceding rock stars in America, like Elvis Presley, Ricky Nelson, or Buddy Holly. In Later years, the Beatles’ lyrics got more sophisticated. Their inspiring songs depicted real life social awareness, such as the powerful “A Day in the Life” and “Lucy In the Sky with Diamonds.” The complexity of their lyrics obviously influenced bands around the world for several decades, such as America’s Jane’s Addiction and the Irish U2 who people with Lakewood Ranch homes for sale can see live this summer.

According to a history professor with a home for sale in Lakewood Ranch, the Beatles decided to record an album of songs that would be virtually impossible to perform onstage, due to the traumatic experiences of touring, such as the crowd’s screaming overpowering the music. The result was Sgt. Pepper’s, rock’s first concept album. In a concept album, all songs contribute to a single effect or unified story. For Sgt. Pepper’s, the members of a fictional band each adopt a persona.

Some concept albums from the States stemming from Sgt. Pepper’s include the Beach Boys’ 1966 Little Deuce Coupe, featuring various car related songs explaining America’s car culture. The same year, the band released Pet Sounds, an autobiographical work about love and life. The following year, the Jimi Hendrix Experience recorded Axis: Bold as Love, the tale of one man’s journey for true love on the earth’s axis. 1969 featured the British Who’s Tommy, the tale of a deaf, dumb, and blind pinball wizard. The same year, The Kinks sang about a middle-aged man who gradually loses touch with society in their concept album, Arthur or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire. Regardless, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band should be in every Lakewood Ranch luxury home.
