Tim is a 44-year-old professor working on the West Coast of Florida. He lives in a Naples luxury home and is employed as a writing professor at the local school, Hodges University. In class, Tim gets to share his first-person stories about working as a reporter. After all, he has learned plenty of lessons the hard way in his two decades’ worth of journalism.

For instance, when Tim began writing for the University of Central Florida’s Future newspaper in the Nineties, he began informing students of the latest on-campus news, including Orlando-based sports and profiles of new professors. Every piece that Tim reported was from a third-person point of view. It may have taken a little work, but he eventually figured out how to share his opinions with readers without using the terms I, me, or my.

Immediately after graduating with a degree in English from UCF in 1999, Tim worked all over the area. He freelanced for the Palm Beach Post, Sun-Sentinel, and even the prestigious Miami Herald. Eventually, he landed a reporting job at an entertainment magazine in South Florida. Working for the publication, Tim began writing in the first-person, explaining how movies, albums, and rock concerts had an effect on him. When he interviewed celebrities, he often told personal tales about how the subjects’ works influenced him as a child. Readers seemed to relate to his articles. They also appreciated his honesty, even if it was at the expense of artists.

Tim’s favorite part of the job was interviewing rock stars, including Perry Farrell, Jason Bonham, and the legendary guitarist Derek Trucks. While each interview has its memorable moments, nothing will compare to when John Popper of Blues Traveler recognized Tim’s article from his stage. In the middle of a concert, he held up the music publication, discussed his interview, and had the entire crowd recognize Tim’s journalism. The band even sold a live CD of the concert, so Tim has all the audio captured. After the show, he was invited backstage where he hung out with the band, shared personal stories, and even played a couple drinking games. It was certainly a highlight of the man’s career. Of course, everybody in the whole venue was then buying Tim shots. Fortunately, he had enough cash to take a taxi home.

While writing for the entertainment magazine was plenty of fun, Tim eventually left the publication behind. After all, he received a wonderful job offer to relocate from Fort Lauderdale to Naples. On the West Coast of the Sunshine State, Tim found a marvelous home for sale in Naples. Besides teaching, he now writes for a prestigious advertising firm. Representing numerous accounts, his work entails advising readers all about certain products, which included everything from tennis shoes and sunglasses to DVD players and weight loss supplements. On a daily basis, Tim writes blogs all over the web telling consumers what to buy and where to purchase the products. Working out of his Naples real estate, he gives helpful advice, relying on a second-person voice.
