With Roger Waters coming to Miami’s American Airlines Arena with his enormous Us + Them Tour in July 13, Parkland real estate owners are in for a treat. His last jaunts were themed around Pink Floyd albums, The Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall. In fact, The Wall concert stands as the most successful tour by a solo artist in history.

Men and women with homes for sale in Parkland can prepare themselves with an education Pink Floyd DVD. The Pink Floyd and Syd Barrett Story is a lengthy documentary that traces the memorable days with the artist leading them to the top of their game.

While owners of Parkland Florida real estate condos agree that there’s a lack of new information presented to fans familiar with Pink Floyd’s history, there is phenomenal footage dating back to the 1960s. Director John Edginton also uses candid interviews with every bandmate sharing his professional opinions and personal memories of life with Syd. As Richard Wright explains, “This imploded middle-class mother’s boy from Cambridge” grew into one of the most famous pioneers and masterminds of the psychedelic era.

The DVD begins describing Syd’s early years as an imaginative craftsman. Originally known as The Pink Floyd, he came up with the group’s name by borrowing the first names of Pink Anderson and fellow Carolina bluesman, Floyd Council. Their first album, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, established the crew in Britain’s mainstream pop culture.

By this time, it became quite apparent that Syd’s mental state had diminished from his use of hallucinogenic. By the time their first single, “See Emily Play,” was gaining notice, he was a changed character in the drug culture.

As a result, Pink Floyd decided to go on as a foursome without the man. In January of 1968, Syd was forced to embark on a short-lived solo career, created two LPs worth of what replacement guitarist David Gilmore describes as “mind-boggling.”

A tale is told about Syd’s last public appearance in the summer of ’70. He sang three songs before gently and quietly walking offstage. He moved in with his mother in Cambridge, and was reportedly accepting about the boys’ success without him. The fellas all discuss seeing Syd years later when he walked into a recording session.

Spectators catch Roger Waters’ singing about the “legend,” the “martyr” at a 2000 concert. Syd passed away in July of 2006 at age 60. Credits roll alongside pieces of his experimental videos.

While describing Syd’s techniques and emotional impact on Floyd, Waters chats about meeting Syd at a Saturday morning art class in Cambridge. Waters was 9 or 10, and Syd was 8 or 9. They later grew close as teenagers talking about smoking dope and using a whammy bar on a guitar.

Sure, Parkland luxury homeowners know Syd was the mad genius behind the original crew. But if the group advanced on with him as their singer, there would never be Dark Side, Wish You Were Here or The Wall. The legendary Pink Floyd wouldn’t still shine on.
