With summer just around the corner and the kids out of school, perhaps it is time to plan a little vacation. Maybe the best way to prepare you and your family for the adventure is with a timeless film or two in your Boynton Beach real estate. In other words, turn down the lights and pop some popcorn to enjoy watching the Harold Ramis directed comedy classic from 1983, National Lampoon’s Vacation. The script was penned by one of the decade’s most prominent writers, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’s John Hughes. Funnyman Chevy Chase stars as Clark W. Griswold, the adventure-seeker that loads his family of four into the metallic pea-green “Family Truckster.” The crew of four treks on a cross-country road trip for a visit to Disneyland-like theme park known as Walley World.

The Griswolds have quite a few obstacles to overcome on their journey, such as canceled credit cards, inner-street violence and transporting a hostile Aunt Edna. Fortunately, that doesn’t stop the father from getting a good look at the Grand Canyon, swimming naked with Christy Brinkley or kidnapping John Candy. Vacation is more than a simple get-away. It’s a historic quest.

There is another movie that will make folks in homes for sale in Boynton Beach laugh out loud. Almost as hysterical as 1983’s classic original, writer John Hughes’ Griswolds win an extraordinary two-week extravaganza overseas in the PG-13 National Lampoon’s European Vacation from 1985. The whole crew from Chicago leaves the metallic pea-green station wagon behind to fly into London after winning the big prize to England, France, Germany, and Italy on the “Pig in a Poke” television game show.

With desperate driving skills, Clark has trouble driving on the other side of the road. As a result, he gets stuck circling around “Big Ben, Parliament” and knocks over Stonehenge before visiting Buckingham Palace where the Queen “queens and vacuums.” The family soon becomes self-appointed ambassadors of America while in Paris. The four soak in French culture with the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower, and sweet-talking waiters. Before long, they take the “Holiday Road” to Clark’s unknown relatives somewhere in Germany. Before long, Clark gets into a fight onstage at a beer festival and they all flee to Rome. The Griswolds eventually walk into a robbery, go through a car chase and catch burglars all before returning home. Europe can certainly be quite a chaotic vacation.

Next in the series came 1989’s Christmas Vacation, followed by 1997’s Vegas Vacation, when Clark decided to take the crew to Nevada. His brother, played by Randy Quaid appears and the family explores everything from Hoover Dam to a Siegfried and Roy show. Unfortunately, they simply do not compare to the first two movies about going on vacation with the family.

As a worldly Clark W. Griswold explains, “The great thing about traveling is you really learn to appreciate coming home.” That special place may just be in a Boynton Beach luxury home that Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Florida Realty can help you find and purchase.
