There are literally thousands of Stuart real estate owners who love Pink Floyd from the Sixties. That is why there are a couple DVDs that should be in every classic rock lover’s collection. For starters, Pink Floyd – London 1966-1967 gives spectators at homes for sale in Stuart a glimpse of the band recording songs in January of 1967 in Sound Techniques in London.

The unmistakable presence of co-founder Syd Barrett will prove fascinating to any devoted fan. Also featured on the DVD is the “14 Hour Technicolor Dream Extravaganza” in London during 1967, featuring Yoko Ono on the bill and John Lennon in the audience. The movie is centered on some very early recording sessions for the quartet, who at the time were interested in largely improvised psychedelic jams, rooted in jazz and blues. True, the DVD does not focus on only the young Floyd, a stage in their music, or even one their concert treks. But, it is top quality footage and highly educational for anyone who’s curious about the pop scene of London during the psychedelic era, as reproduced in the Austin Powers flicks. Archival interview clips with artists such as Mick Jagger, Michael Caine, and David Hockney add another facet of insight into one of the liveliest periods in popular culture, despite no one saying anything of interest.

Though it is full of quick cuts and loopy pan, London -1966-1967 is not a concert film, nor does it teach the comprehensive history of the Floyd. Rather, London – 1966-1967 was created as a dreamy, avant-garde portrait of the English town, complimented by improvisational epics such as “Interstellar Overdrive” and “Nick’s Boogie,” accompanied by recordings from the legendary quartet at swinging clubs.

Another timeless film is 1971’s Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii. After all, any footage of boys, pre-Dark Side, is a rare treat. Directed by Adrian Maben, Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii was filmed in an ancient amphitheater. Bandmates Roger Waters, David Gilmour, Richard Wright, and Nick Mason are at their energetic and creative peak as a legendary band.

Songs included are “Echoes,” “Careful with that Axe, Eugene,” “One of those Days,” “Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun” and “Mademoiselle Nobbs.” A couple of the ditties were filmed shot at night with minimal lighting, setting a hypnotic mood. At one point, Waters  struggles with the lead vocals as he jumps around like an animal banging the huge gong. A real delight is the musical parts of the disc concentrate on Floyd’s most experimental instrumental songs filmed live.

A 90-minute director’s cut DVD interweaves the Pompeii performances with fascinating, but sometimes distracting interviews of band members.

Stuart luxury homeowners who appreciate Pink Floyd can enjoy a handful of extras, like Waters discussing how the band’s synthesizers may have taken over Floyd’s music, claiming that they’re in total control of their songs. He believes that electronic devices can never replace artists’ creativity, but it is important for a conscience musician to know all about the equipment, recording, and editing.
