Reed Jackson is a 17-year-old senior who lives in a Palm City luxury home. The boy is getting ready to move to Tallahassee to start his freshman year at Florida State University. The kid is smart enough to know that he needs to save as much money as he can, as he will be on his own as soon as school begins. Besides tuition, Reed will have to buy everything for himself, from breakfast to textbooks. That’s why he is taking as many babysitting jobs while he can. The last he wants to do is miss the next year in Tallahassee, where he knows he will have a ball attending football games and meeting plenty of girls.

Over the weekend, Reed had a job on a gorgeous piece of Palm City real estate. He figured it would be easy, as all he had to do was pop in a DVD for a couple hours while the two kids’ folks were at dinner. However, the movie was horrendous. Aqua Teen Hunger Force is the animated feature from 2007 based on the Adult Swim series that ceases to be cute, funny, or even amusing. It may be a cartoon, but it is far from being a children’s flick. In fact, the film has been given an R rating due to crude and sexual humor, violent images, and plenty of four-letter words. Written and directed for the big screen by the television show’s creators, Matt Maiellaro, and Dave Willis, the Aqua Teen movie is too juvenile for any man or woman.

The three main characters are a box of French fries, a milkshake, and a meatball. The super-sized crew teams up in a New Jersey home and goes searching for a piece of exercise equipment, as it poses a severe threat to the balance of galactic peace. The plot revolves around a unique weight-lifting set, the “Insanflex,” that travels through time. There are a handful of other creatures searching for the device, including Abe Lincoln, a record-mixing spider wearing a diaper, a French fry eating poodle, and a monster who sounds like Arnold Schwarzenegger, as well as an oddball whose gag reflex is activated by a bull. Meanwhile, the bad guys, the evil Plutonians, have joined forces with the Cybernetic Ghost of Christmas Past to take control of the renegade Insanflex in a bid to rule the universe.

SNL’s Fred Armisen and Bruce Campbell add their voices. But the film’s best feature is a cameo vocal appearance by Neil Pert, the legendary drummer from Rush. The Aqua Teen soundtrack features sound bites from the movie, on top of Phil Collins’ “In the Air,” as well as a mix of heavy metal, indie rock, and hip-hop original recordings from artists such as Mastodon, Killer Mike and Unearth.

At least Reed learned a valuable lesson. Whether or not you are saving up for college or to purchase a home for sale in Palm City, skip Aqua Teen and spend your time and money on something that’s actually entertaining.
