Weston Homeowners Discover the Tibetan Freedom Festival

With Roger Waters The Wall and U2 The Joshua Tree tours are coming to South Florida this summer, as well as  Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers and Guns ‘N Roses, Weston real estate owners are certainly excited for some top-notch performances. In order to get ready for the politically motivated shows, men and women can always check out the three CD’s worth of material found on the timeless Tibetan Freedom Concert.

In 1950, the Chinese invaded the peaceful country of Tibet. Ever since, it has been under the rule of the communists. More than 1.2 million Tibetans have been killed, along with the destruction of 6,000 monasteries. The Tibetans come from a nonviolent and diplomatic land led by the Dalai Lama and resist the Chinese without violence.

The release contains some of the best-known pop stars blowing listeners away. From Radiohead and U2, to the Beastie Boys, and Foo Fighters, the 1996 and ’97 shows were legendary, as they all strived to do something for the Buddhist hurting nation of Tibet. There are also parts from Buddhist monks as a celebration of the land’s spirit and culture taking place through two years of concerts. The collection exhibits some up and coming artists, like the John Spencer Blue Explosion, Taj Mahal and the Phantom Blues Band, and Pavement, along with a handful of the industry’s biggest names. The compilation is spiced with a fair share of traditional Tibetan chants and music, so folks will not forget why the album was made.

The first show was also filmed in the Big Apple. Ben Harper recreates the upbeat “Ground on Down,” followed by a dynamite single by the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. Radiohead’s live version of “Fake Plastic Trees” will put a tear in your eye. A Tribe Called Quest’s “Oh My God” will get your heart beating rapidly and your feet moving even faster. Unfortunately, most folks with Weston homes for sale think U2 does nothing to impress with their mediocre performance of “One.” Sonic Youth’s “Wildflower” is lively, while both Porno for Pyros and the Foo Fighters deliver satisfying rhythms to dance to.

Most folks with homes for sale in Weston think the best CD of the three is undoubtedly disc 2 from New York City’s Downing Stadium from June of 1997. $250 000 was raised from over 50,000 attendees at the massive affair. The greatest feature from all three events is Eddie Vedder and Mike McCready’s “Yellow Ledbetter,” an excellent, bluesy version of the Pearl Jam classic. The Beastie Boys “Root Down” is quite memorable as well. Talk about Nineties classics! The only thing missing is Jane’s Addiction.

The third disc was recorded live at San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park in June in the summer of 1996. That show brought in 100,000 spectators to earn $800,000 for the nation in need. The concert in California featured Beck, De La Soul, the Fugees, and Rage Against the Machine. Each of the events generated unprecedented public awareness about the Tibetan plight, particularly amongst the younger generation of Weston luxury homeowners.
