Weston real estate owners are looking forward to Robert De Niro’s new flick, The Comedian, opening on February 3. Along with Danny DeVito, Edie Falco and Harvey Keitel, the film involves a comic hero trying to make a comeback by reinventing himself. Yet, audiences only want to see his character from the old TV show they knew years ago. Of course, critics seem to agree that the film does not live it to the actor’s best work, such as Taxi Driver, Raging Bull and Goodfellas. A number of Weston real estate owners agree that his most unsung film is Midnight Run.

Jake Phillips is a business executive with three different homes for sale in Weston. Hosting a movie party in one Weston homes for sale, he screened the DVD for neighbors, as well as chatted a bit about the work from 1998. Lecturing in his Weston luxury home, guests learned that a midnight run is something that is relatively easy in bounty hunter language. However, De Niro’s run is extremely complicated.

Weston real estate owners learned that De Niro plays Jack Walsh, a former cop from Chicago who is hired by a bail bondsman to find “The Duke” and bring him from Manhattan to Los Angeles within a week’s time. Jonathan “The Duke” Mardukas, played by Charles Grodin, is an accountant who embezzled $15 million from a Vegas wiseguy and then proceeded to jump bail. Needless to say, the Weston real estate owners figured the mafia is after him.

The FBI also wants “The Duke” in order to build their case against a powerful mobster, Serrano. Coincidently, Serrano is the goodfella who chased De Niro out of the Windy City several years prior. Weston real estate owners love the fact that Mardukas is a nut who mails postcards to the gangster explaining what a good time he’s having with the stolen money.

Once Walsh obtains “The Duke” into his custody, the pair goes on a wild cross-country adventure, using planes, trains, and automobiles to dodge both sides of the law.  Weston real estate owners appreciate watching the two lead characters are constantly bickering about everything from second-hand smoke and cholesterol to financial responsibilities and family matters. Weston real estate owners agree that the low-key, humorous chemistry between De Niro and Grodin’s personalities is unmatched and simply phenomenal.

Weston real estate owners were surprised to learn that Cher was originally sought after to play opposite of De Niro, giving sexual overtones to Midnight Run. Meanwhile, both Robin Williams and Bruce Willis were considered for Grodin’s role, but were each turned away due to a lack of chemistry. Funny, most Weston real estate owners think the chemicals was present eight years earlier in Awakenings. And when Willis wasn’t cast, he took the part of John McClane in Die Hard, another favorite among Weston real estate owners that opened the same week. That certainly wasn’t a bad decision. Regardless, Midnight Run is still considered a modern classic among Weston real estate owners.
