Palm Beach Gardens real estate owners are thrilled that Joe Walsh will be warming up the stage for Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers 40th Anniversary Tour at West Palm Beach’s Perfect Vodka Amphitheatre on May 5. Walsh has played guitar in two legendary bands, the James Gang, and the Eagles, as well as headed up an impressive solo career. Now in his 60s, the man from Wichita, Kansas will put on quite a show for South Florida.
Over the decades, Walsh and the Eagles toured on multimillion dollar treks. The man who brought “Rocky Mountain Way” to the top of the charts performed live before a huge crowd at Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival and got back together with Jim Fox and Dale Peters of James Gang for a 15-date summer reunion expedition a few months later.
While some of his compositions, such as “One Day at a Time,” deal with his struggles with substance abuse, particularly alcoholism, Walsh has stayed clean and sober since 1995. The Eagles, who were the only act to bring in more than U2 in 2001, came in third place four years later with $63 million in ticket sales. Folks with homes for sale in Palm Beach Gardens may remember the Eagles’ stop at Miami Arena in 2015 was phenomenal as well.
When he was in the same arena in May of last year, Walsh put on a fantastic show for people with Palm Beach Gardens homes for sale. The crowd was asked to sing along to the James Gang’s “Funk #49.” Walsh hopped on one leg like he was Chuck Berry. A roadie used an air gun to shoot souvenir tee shirts into the fortunate spectators up front.
Some more of the James Gang was heard, including “Cast Your Fate to the Wind.” West Palm Beach then experienced the uplifting ditty “Life’s Been Good.” Keeping up with the times, Walsh changed the lyrics from “They write me letters” to “They send me e-mails, tell me I’m great.” The ensemble kept the vibe upbeat with the Eagles’ ageless “Life in the Fast Lane,” before concluding the memorable evening with “Rocky Mountain Way.”
Throughout his 90-minute-or-so set, Walsh continuously switched guitars. He also stepped up with several awe-inspiring solos that can’t be heard on the radio. Not even at the phenomenal Eagles shows did Walsh jam with the passion and skill as he did during “Take It to the Limit,” “Life’s Been Good” and “Funk #49.”
Walsh is playing several dates around the States over the next few weeks before he makes his way to South Florida. Men and women with Palm Beach Gardens luxury homes should check out this concert because life’s been good to the man’s spectators so far. And Florida’s Tom petty isn’t too shabby either.
Much to the surprise of classic rock fans, Walsh will be taking part in Eagles concerts later this summer, despite the recent loss of singer/songwriter Glenn Frey. Regardless, the concert in West Palm Beach this May is sure to be spectacular.
