It’s the kids’ last day of school and summer is here. It is the time for the children to enjoy priceless comedies in your Coral Springs real estate. And the funniest blockbusters often revolve around the one season that men, women, and children spend their school days dreaming about. “Are you ready for the summer? Are you ready for the good times? Are you ready for the birds and bees, the apple trees and a whole lot of fooling’ around?” The opening song from 1979’s Meatballs asks the pertinent questions. After all, when is there a better opportunity to pop in some enduring DVDs and catch up on your ageless comedies?

In 1979, a 29-year-old Bill Murray ruled sleep-away camps. In Meatballs, Ivan Reitman directs Murray as an immature counselor with a heart of gold, despite his unorthodox methods. As any spectator would expect, the funnyman is full of romance, scary tales at the campfire, memorable dance routines and side-splitting one-liners that help befriend a homesick camper. During one morning’s announcements, Murray reports that “Arts and Crafts has been canceled due to bad taste.” Other characters include Spaz, the stereotypical nerd with glasses held together by masking tape. Then there’s his obese mate who wins a hot dog eating competition. Murray even sings on the soundtrack of the first summer comedy classic.

The following summer, the movie industry was blessed with Caddyshack. Folks in homes for sale in Coral Springs may recognize that the picture was filmed at the Boca Raton Hotel & Country Club and the Rolling Hills Golf & Tennis Club in Davie. The story is set on the golf course at Bushwood Country Club, a silly reference to both male and female private parts. The hilarious plot entails a clash between classes. While the rich and privileged kids are club members, the naughty and noisy juveniles work at Bushwood.

The flick stars Murray once again as the legendary goofball Carl Spakler. And Murray’s dialogue with himself, much of which was improvised, shows him as a talking mental case working as an assistant greens keeper. Chevy Chase is Ty Webb, a wealthy master of one-liners, as well as both the piano and the game of golf, but rarely plays for money. Rodney Dangerfield is Al Czervik, a vulgar man, but full of witty insults, and Ted Knight is the uptight Judge Smails. Michael O’Keefe stars as Danny Noonan, a blue-collar kid just trying to earn his way into college despite poor grades and an economic disadvantage. Half-way through the picture, Judge Smails informs Danny he can have a scholarship sponsored by the country club if Danny were to win a caddy golf championship. But Danny eventually realizes that he doesn’t even want to go away to school, and teams up with Rodney and Chevy in an illegal golf match involving big-stakes gambling. Coral Springs luxury homeowners will be rolling on the floor. Thousands of men and women living in South Florida agree that they just don’t make comedies like they used to.
